Winter Steelhead

There really isn’t anything like hooking a dime-bright steelhead straight out of the ocean.

Coastal Steelhead

Tenacious, aggressive, exhilarating.

Few fish are as tenacious, aggressive and exhilarating to catch as a wild Pacific steelhead.

Oregon’s winter steelhead begin to show up in December and can fish well into April, with the runs typically peaking in February and March. Hatchery fish arrive first, which makes January quite good. They make excellent table fare and fight well. By February there’s a solid mix of hatchery, brood stock and wild native fish all together. Who knows what will be there when your line pulls tight.

The Trip

Come prepared. Stay flexible.

We offer full-day float trips from January through March. Trips include your guide, all gear, instruction and a hot lunch, and typically run from sunup to sundown unless other times are arranged.

Weather on the Oregon Coast can be unpredictable and at times unforgiving. Come prepared for wet, cold conditions, and please stay flexible. We may need to change rivers or reschedule if the water blows out.

We welcome all skill levels and personalities. Everyone has to start somewhere, and you don’t need to be an expert to be welcome on our boat. Be open to coaching and stay positive. Steelhead fishing is often more of an endurance race than a sprint. Keep your chin up, stay confident, and trust the method.
